If you have recently received a notification from the Social Security Administration with the subject "Update CNAE25 Activity Code", we inform you that it is necessary to review and, if necessary, update the CNAE code corresponding to your activity before June 30, 2025.
In 2025, the new National Classification of Economic Activities (CNAE-2025) comes into effect, replacing the current CNAE-2009. This update affects all registered self-employed workers, and it will be mandatory to report their activity according to the new list from the Importass personal area, since there is no direct equivalence between the old and new codes.
The new CNAE-2025 system came into effect on January 16, 2025, following its official publication in the Official State Gazette (BOE) on January 15. This update aims to reflect the profound changes the economy has undergone since 2009, incorporating advances in technology, science, and economic structure.
Most relevant changes of the CNAE-2025
Integration of sustainable activities
New areas related to the circular economy, clean energy, and other sectors focused on environmental sustainability are included.
Recognition of digital transformation
The classification now includes sectors that have emerged or evolved with digitization and globalization, such as digital services or new technologies.
International harmonization
The CNAE-2025 is designed to be in line with the international classifications NACE Rev. 2.1 (European) and ISIC Rev. 5 (UN), thus facilitating the comparison of data and use in official statistics.
Transitional stage
During an adaptation period, the CNAE-2009 and the CNAE-2025 will coexist, until all legislation and systems are fully updated.
What should companies do?
Companies registered before January 16, 2025
They have until June 30, 2025 to update their activity codes in accordance with the new classification.
New registrations from January 16th
They must use the CNAE-2025 directly at the time of registration.
During the transition period
It will be necessary to manage both classifications (2009 and 2025) to maintain consistency in records and procedures.
Recommendations for companies
Review your current code and see how it translates to the new version.
